Names, characters, places, and incidents either are the product of the author's imagination or are used fictitiously. Any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, events, or locales is entirely coincidental. Based on a work at www. Permissions beyond the scope of this license may be available at http: This book is dedicated to my fans and for those who wondered what happened to Miles. Such a character deserved a happy ending of his own! Chapter 1 The sky was dark, the hour late. There was little sound besides the constant rattle of the rain against the house. Miles Clarendon, the Duke of Sutherland, was sitting alone in his study, drink in one hand, letter in the other. His focus was elsewhere, not really taking in his environment. The letter, a brief note from Bethany Whitmore, the Countess Whitmore, was clenched so tightly that the paper was wrinkled beyond repair. Not that it mattered to Miles, whose heart felt much like the tattered paper he held. The woman he loved, the only woman he'd ever loved, had decided to give her errant husband another chance. Her note, although kind, had devastated him as nothing else had in his life.

The second half in particular lost pace because the author suddenly started using flashbacks. Flashbacks can be effective but these took you back to mundane and dull incidents that bore absolutely no relevance to the plot. A shame because they came at what should have been the climax of the book.

In addition, like the first book, there was some incorrect use of English and some misuse of vocabulary here and there plus more and more Americanisms slipping through. Fine for Ginny as she is American, not appropriate for the English characters. Once again, none of them seemed to notice that the woman in front of them was speaking as a modern American.

All in all, I loved the story and the characters, but I wasn't very impressed with some of the writing- this lead me to a 3 star rating. There were also a lot of errors in the writing. Unfortunately, I have contacted the author and she made it clear that she has no wish to correct the errors- doesn't inspire confidence.

Eventhough I understand bethany's rationale, but I hate hate hate colin for 1- adamantly wanting to marry bethany, when she'd already given him the way out. Ran away from his marriage for more than a freakin year to get laid with whores around the world???

Seriously, that deserved forgiveness? Ginny had to use her crop to goad the horse forward, since she had trouble bumping its flanks with only one stirruped foot. She also didn't want to hit the horse too hard to send it galloping away.

The two kept the leisurely pace Whitmore had promised. It turned out better for conversation. Whitmore pointed out many landmarks and commented on some of his tenant's lands. He showed her the lake and trout stream, the mill, the outskirts of the closest village called Headley.

Soon they were amongst nothing but the wilderness, so she finally had time to ask questions. It turned out better for conversation. Whitmore pointed out many landmarks and commented on some of his tenant's lands.

It appears there is nothing amiss with your memory. Now, stop stalling and start spilling. The story about how they both pursued the milliner's daughter, only to find out later that they not only both caught her, but did so in the same day, seemed wholly inappropriate.

He settled on a tale from when they first met, where they stole their Latin teacher's discipline stick and framed a rather tiresome schoolmate with the crime. Page 46 of
